Barrett-Jackson's first auction of 2024, held Jan. 20-28 at WestWorld of Scottsdale, AZ, not only featured the largest auction docket in the company's history with 2,016 collectible vehicles but also achieved a record $200.9 million in auction sales.
The auction, known for its "no reserve" policy, saw every listed vehicle sold, contributing to a total of $207.6 million in sales when including the 1,180 pieces of authentic automobilia auctioned for $6.7 million. The figure sets a new benchmark for a single auction in Barrett-Jackson's history, showcasing a 100% sell-through rate and more than 190 world-record auction sales.
Top auction sales included a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing for $3.41 million, a 2018 Bugatti Chiron for $2.97 million and a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster for $2.42 million.
“It was a tremendous event this week in Scottsdale with our largest docket in history, a record number of bidders, and an impromptu live performance by Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We continue to set the bar within the hobby with record-breaking sales like the 1956 300SL Gullwing, and our top sales reflect both the quality and diversity of our docket with a superb mix of classic sports cars, supercars, pre-war classics and Resto-Mods.”
The Scottsdale Auction kicked off with a "Rock the Block" concert and featured various events designed to engage the next generation of car enthusiasts. The Opening Night Gala honored law enforcement officers and offered guests live entertainment, gourmet food and signature cocktails.
“Our Scottsdale Auction showcased the vibrancy of the collector car hobby,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “With over 2,000 vehicles, this was the largest entirely No Reserve public consignment auction for collector cars in history. Jaw-dropping Resto-Mods, customs, trucks and supercars crossed the block among exceptional concours-level classics, giving every generation of collectors an opportunity to buy their dream car.
The auction's success included the sale of four charity vehicles raising $1 million for various causes.
Barrett-Jackson looks ahead to its Palm Beach auction, April 20-24, and the return of the Scottsdale Fall Auction in October.
