A Baltimore, MD, resident is set to stand trial June 25 for his alleged involvement in a non-fatal shooting at a local auto repair shop, the Baltimore Witness reported.
Jason Estrada, 43, faces multiple charges, including assault and firearm offenses, stemming from the Aug. 15, 2023, incident. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Copeland announced the trial date April 11.
According to court documents, a disgruntled former customer, believed to be Estrada, entered the auto repair shop on W. Belvedere Avenue and demanded $1,000 from the employees while brandishing a handgun. The customer then fired shots at the floor in what appeared to be an escalation of demands.
The Baltimore Police Department, which responded to the incident, said the customer had not paid for previous work done on his car. The vehicle was later marked as abandoned, towed and auctioned days before the altercation.
Estrada is charged with firearm possession with a felony conviction, possession of firearms during a controlled dangerous substance offense, four counts each of first- and second-degree assault, four counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, and firing a weapon in a public space.
No plea offer was extended to Estrada, and his defense attorney, Jason Rodriguez, is preparing for a two-day trial set to be presided over by Judge Barry Williams in the Baltimore City Circuit Court.
