General Motors announced a new recall for the 2020-2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV models due to a risk of battery fires.
The recall affects 72 vehicles in the U.S. and 12 in Canada, with owners being advised to take immediate precautions. GM advised owners to "Set the Target Charge Level feature in their vehicle to limit the charge level to 90%, charge their vehicle more frequently, avoid depleting the battery to 70 miles range remaining, park outside after charging, and do not charge the vehicle indoors overnight."
This latest recall comes after the advanced diagnostic software was found to be incorrectly installed, potentially failing to detect defective battery modules that could result in fires. GM dealers are set to reinstall the correct software starting Aug. 5, once recall letters are sent out to affected owners.
