At its national Community Action Program (CAP) conference, the United Auto Workers (UAW) union announced its endorsement of Joe Biden for president of the U.S. in the upcoming 2024 election.
UAW President Shawn Fain, addressing hundreds of union members, leaders and activists, highlighted the critical decision facing the working class in the upcoming election.
"This November, we can stand up and elect someone who wants to stand with us and support our cause. Or we can elect someone who will divide us and fight us every step of the way," Fain said, stressing the necessity of choosing a leader who would unite and strengthen the working class, emphasizing the historical achievements of the union in securing fair rights for workers.
Fain expressed pride in endorsing Biden, inviting him to address the union and join their battle for economic and social justice.
"Today I’m proud to announce that UAW is endorsing Joe Biden for president of the United States. And I am honored to invite Joe Biden to come address our great union, and join us in our fight for economic and social justice for the UAW and for the whole working class,” he said.
The union's support is seen as a significant boost for Biden, reflecting the confidence of a major labor organization in his leadership and policies. The UAW, known for its influential role in the political arena, particularly in key battleground states, could play a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the election.
