Hyundai once again claimed top honors in U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hybrid and Electric Cars awards, leading all brands with three category wins for 2025. The rankings, which evaluated 115 vehicles across 10 categories, recognize the year’s most outstanding electrified models based on quality, efficiency and value.

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 was named Best Electric SUV, the IONIQ 6 earned Best Electric Car, and the Tucson Hybrid secured Best Hybrid SUV. All three vehicles retained their titles from last year.

“As consumers continue to show strong interest in owning hybrid and electric vehicles -- and as automakers keep releasing new models -- there are ever more options to choose from,” said Alex Kwanten, managing editor of Autos at U.S. News. “Whether car buyers are looking for a luxury or an affordable car, SUV or truck, the 2025 Best Hybrid and Electric Cars awards recognize the top electrified vehicles in their respective categories.”

In addition to Hyundai’s repeat wins, four other vehicles maintained their top rankings:

• The Ford F-150 Lightning was named Best Electric Truck for the third consecutive year.
• The Lucid Air earned Best Luxury Electric Car for the fourth straight year.
• The Toyota Camry continued its reign as Best Hybrid Car.
• The Lexus NX Hybrid held onto its title as Best Luxury Hybrid.

Three first-time winners were also recognized in this year’s rankings. The Rivian R1S took the award for Best Luxury Electric SUV, praised for its impressive range, performance upgrades and updated infotainment system. The Volvo XC60 Plug-In Hybrid was named Best Luxury Plug-In Hybrid for its strong acceleration, comfort and robust feature set. The Mazda CX-90 PHEV, a three-row SUV, earned Best Plug-In Hybrid for its athletic handling and refined interior.

To determine the winners, U.S. News analyzed EPA mileage and range data, pricing and expert reviews to evaluate overall value and performance across the segment.

Since 2007, U.S. News Best Cars has published rankings and reviews for nearly all new vehicles sold in the U.S., aiming to guide consumers with data-backed insights. The publication also annually issues awards for Best Vehicle Brands, Best Cars for the Money and Best Cars for Families.
