Don Roy’s Auto Body and Appearance Center in Chicopee, MA, will close at the end of November, concluding more than three decades of service. The shop, a fixture on Granby Road since 1992, announced that rising challenges, especially insurance-set labor rates, have made it unsustainable to continue operations, according to 22News.
“The primary and most important factor being that we can no longer afford to pay our technicians and employees a proper wage,” said owner Don Roy in a statement sent to 22News. “Insurance companies set the labor rate, and it is no longer adequate. We are no longer able to maintain quality repair technicians -- and we are not able to keep up to date with all new repair concepts and tooling needed to repair today’s new dimension of vehicles.”
Known for its dedication to customer service and quality work, Don Roy’s Auto Body has garnered multiple accolades over the years, including the Business of the Year award from the Chicopee Chamber of Commerce and the Torch Award from the Better Business Bureau.
Roy also built a strong community presence, supporting local nonprofits and participating in community car shows.
Expressing their gratitude, Roy, along with his wife Irene and daughter Karen, thanked their employees, customers and friends, acknowledging that their “support and patronage will never be forgotten.”
