Lucid announced a major expansion of its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Plant (AMP-1) in Arizona, in anticipation of the production of its new fully electric SUV, the Lucid Gravity.

“The expansion of our manufacturing footprint in Arizona is a significant milestone for the company, as we prepare for the next phase of Lucid’s growth," said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO of Lucid. “Our expanded state-of-the-art factory will allow us to continue to deliver our great cars to our customers around the world, including the Lucid Gravity in the near future.”

The expansion includes a new 3 million-square-foot manufacturing facility and warehouse. It is set to integrate multiple functions onto one campus, encompassing a new General Assembly line, quality and semi-knock down (SKD) centers, expanded body and paint shops, a relocated Logistics center, and an enhanced powertrain facility. This facility will also manufacture Lucid's proprietary powertrain technology.

“In just a few short years, the Lucid team has evolved our manufacturing footprint into one of the few highly integrated electric vehicle manufacturing plants in the U.S.,” said Steven David, SVP of operations at Lucid. David added the expansion will bring “greater operational efficiency to our manufacturing process” and aid in delivering high-quality electric vehicles to customers.

A key component of the expansion is the introduction of one of the world's most advanced stamping facilities. This new facility is expected to enhance quality standards, increase flexibility and reduce costs. The stamping operations are slated to commence in 2024.

Beyond manufacturing advancements, Lucid has been pivotal in fostering technological innovation in Pinal County, Arizona. The company's collaborations with the Arizona Commerce Authority, the City of Casa Grande and Central Arizona College have been instrumental in developing local talent and providing specialized skill development training.
