Scott and Sarah Schaefer host the tournament every year in memory of their late son, David Ian Schaefer.
Schaefer Autobody Centers donated $80,000 to St. Louis Children's Hospital, following its annual David Ian Charity Golf Tournament, held Sept. 25. This generous contribution, marking a new record in the tournament's history, will make a significant impact on children and their families at Children's Hospital.
The David Ian Charity Golf Tournament serves as a loving tribute to David Ian Schaefer, the late son of Scott and Sarah Schaefer. Born in 2015 with severe birth defects, David's brave battle with illness ended tragically in early 2016. In memory of their beloved son, the Schaefer family has been hosting this golf tournament every September.
Scott and Sarah Schaefer have expressed deep gratitude for the exceptional care their son received at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Despite the brevity of their time there, the impact left an indelible mark on their hearts. Their experience also introduced them to numerous other families navigating the challenging path of caring for a critically ill child in need of medical treatment.
"Reflecting on our experience, I want to emphasize the journey families endure when tending to an ailing child," the Schaefers said in a joint statement. "We are profoundly thankful for the remarkable acts of kindness demonstrated by individuals and local businesses within the community, all in support of Children's Hospital. These selfless efforts have touched our hearts and left us with a sense of gratitude for how they have collectively contributed to improving the lives of both the children receiving care and the families providing support."
The success was made possible with the support of presenting sponsors Bommarito Auto Group, LKQ/AkzoNobel and Wanetta and Steven Henry, along with more than two dozen other St. Louis area companies who sponsored the tournament. The next David Ian Charity Golf Tournament is already scheduled for Sept. 23, 2024.
