The Southington, CT, Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved a new use for a previously contested South Main Street property. The site at 876 S. Main St. in Plantsville will soon become home to a national auto body and repair franchise, Caliber Collision, which operates more than 1,700 centers across 41 states.
According to reporting by Patch, the approval came through two 7-0 votes by the planning commission in its latest meeting, endorsing both the site plan and a special permit for the project.
The property, owned by 1300 South Main LLC, based in Farmington, and applied for by the Calito Development Group LLC from Torrington, is zoned for business and has been considered for various uses in the past, including an outdoor sports center and a truck wash. However, none of these proposals came to fruition.
Steve Giudice from Cole Civil + Survey LLC, representing the applicant, shared details about the project during the planning commission meeting Jan. 16. He highlighted the site's advantageous location, bordered by the Quinnipiac River and equipped with public water and sewer services. The new facility is planned to span 12,760 square feet and will include a garage and ample parking space.
Matt Eucalitto, representing Calito Development Group, emphasized the future center's modern, state-of-the-art capabilities and its potential to create 25 to 30 jobs, from paint sprayers to technicians. The project, which had already received approval from the town's wetlands board, faced no public opposition during a hearing, leading to a smooth final approval by the planning commission.
