A group of 81 Kansas City high school students has brought new life to a 1969 Chevy Chevelle SS, converting it into an all-electric vehicle. The three-year project, led by nonprofit Operation Breakthrough, was supported by Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his 87 and Running Foundation.

Using a 2016 Tesla Model S large rear drive unit and an 87kWh battery pack, the students created a modernized classic with electric power windows and locks, upgraded air conditioning, a Dakota Digital Dash Instrument Cluster, and a 1,200-watt Bluetooth stereo system.

Kelce's involvement provided the resources needed to bring the project to life, but it was the students’ skills and determination that drove its success. “They’re the real MVPs here,” Kelce noted in a statement.

The finished vehicle is now up for raffle, with proceeds going toward supporting Operation Breakthrough's programs. Missouri and Kansas residents can purchase tickets for $100 each before the raffle ends at 6 p.m. Sept. 26, 2025. The winner will be announced the same day on Facebook.

For those looking to own this one-of-a-kind piece of automotive history while supporting a meaningful cause, raffle tickets and further details can be found here.
