Toyota announced a $922 million investment to build an advanced paint facility at its Georgetown, KY, plant. Scheduled to open in 2027, the facility represents a step toward enhancing operational efficiencies and supporting the company's electrification and sustainability goals.

The 1 million-square-foot facility will reduce environmental impacts, cutting carbon emissions by 30% and saving 1.5 million gallons of water annually. It also promises to enhance vehicle quality by incorporating state-of-the-art paint technologies that improve production accuracy, reduce lead times, and offer a wider range of color options for Toyota vehicles.

"Not only will our customers get the dynamic and stylish exterior finishes they love, but Toyota's commitment to advanced paint technologies goes beyond aesthetics," said Kerry Creech, president of Toyota Kentucky. "It encompasses efficiency, sustainability and quality, leading the industry in environmentally responsible manufacturing."

This development is part of Toyota’s broader strategy to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050. The investment follows a $1.3 billion announcement earlier this year for the Georgetown plant to begin assembly of a three-row battery electric SUV, set to hit the market in 2026.

Toyota’s Kentucky operation opened in 1986 and now employs approximately 10,000 people. Over the past 40 years, Toyota’s investments in the state have exceeded $11 billion, supporting the production of popular models like the Camry Hybrid and RAV4 Hybrid.

"This year alone more than $2 billion is being reinvested in this plant," added Creech. "As the company and industry evolves, we remain committed to putting our team members first, ensuring long-term job security."

Gov. Andy Beshear praised Toyota's ongoing contributions to the state’s economy and workforce.

"Kentucky and Toyota have formed a winning partnership over the past 40 years that has been transformational for families throughout the commonwealth, and this latest investment builds on that tradition of success," he said.
